    Recall…what process would that undertake?

      Well, after Rod Blagojevich was impeached and removed from office, Illinois passed a law that allows its citizens to recall the governor (kinda like what happened in California in 2003 (when they recalled Gray Davis). Basically, it’s the electorate removing a governor, instead of the legislature. The recall amendment was approved by Illinois voters on November 2, 2010, by a vote of 66%-34%.

      It means that a recall petition could be circulated if 20 state representatives and 10 state senators agree, with those being equally balanced from each party.

    First of all, I am sure this process is very complicated. If this movement is serious all steps should be taken to make G. Quinn aware of the situation and the opposition to this tax hike in an effort to pressure a better solution to the budget problems. I would have questions first to find out if there is a majority that would support such a thing, keep in mind he was just elected by the people of the state, and that should not be ignored. Secondly how much money will it cost to complete such a task, and is there appropriate regulation and oversight to ensure the process is conducted properly. Something as serious as a recall should be conducted slowly and purposefully… measure 9 times and cut once don’t measure 1 once and then have to cut 9 times to get it right.

    Living in Oregon, I see the distinct possibility of similar efforts by our new governor and his legislators to get Oregon back on track. Sadly, we have already seen the beginnings of the job provider exodus. Our biggest industries find much greener (as in attractive) opportunity by simply moving their operations north to Washington State. How in the world do the taxes-are-the-answer crowd so completely ignore the reality of the statement “if your outgo exceeds your income, your upkeep will be your downfall.” What most states need is more taxpayers with jobs and new businesses not more taxes on those who provide the jobs and start the businesses.
