God Wants Ambitious Followers

Ambition

[I]n Christian circles today, you might hear people say with disdain about another person, “Boy, is he ambitious.” Ambition is categorized with sins like pride, jealousy, and lust. People who are ambitious can feed this comparison by being ruthless and cold-hearted.

But Scripture doesn’t command against ambition; it commands against selfish ambition. In the passage above (James 3:13-17), James juxtaposes selfish ambition with wisdom. If one wants to be wise, they must not have selfish ambition, jealousy, pride or falsehood, but rather purity, peacefulness, gentleness, etc.

My favorite Democratic presidential nominee, Dennis Kucinich, may not have time to run for president in 2012. I’m very sad about this. Even though he is rumored to be losing his congressional seat in Ohio (which, in my opinion, would give him plenty of time to run for president), he will likely be too busy to run for president.

Dennis Kucinich represents the 10th congressional district of Ohio in the U.S. House of Representatives, and has been called (on his website) “America’s Most Courageous Congressman.” After being the mayor of Cleveland, the people of Cleveland decided that he need more supervision, so they sent him to Congress in 1997, where he would have 434 other members looking after him. He’s known in Congress for his pink ties, and his liberal views. He also ran for president in 2008, when he gave this answer in a presidential debate:
